Aqua Therapy

I have been in the water since I was six months old.  Even though it was predominately for swim team and competitive sports as a child, now I view the water differently.  After 15 years as a digital designer, I suffered with chronic neck, shoulder and back pain.  I found my way back to the water for its therapeutic benefits.  It is a environment free from gravity, allowing for an individual to do exercises that would be nearly impossible on land.  Energetically, water has the ability to heal the soul from trauma.  Water has memory.

Our bodies are 60-70% water. Combined with our subtle energy system of meridian lines and energetic pathways, exercises in the water have the potential to transform our life.  Not only does it offer the physical benefits of improved flexibility, balance and coordination,  increased muscle strength and endurance, it relieves stress and harmonizes the mind as well.

Back floating, a foundational skill in learning how to swim is actually one of the best meditative exercises you can do. Growing in popularity are self-contained float tanks filled with epsom salt accompanied by mood lighting or total darkness to allow your body to rest, rejuvenate and focus on restoring harmony to the body.  Other forms of therapy include WATSU which is gentle massage accompanied by rhythmic movements as the client is completely supported while being cradled, rocked and stretched.

I also utilize Aqua Yoga, adapting on ground movement and poses to a water environment.  The resistance and buoyancy of water creates a different challenge than it does on land.  For example, getting up in a handstand is much easier in the water, staying there, well that’s a different story.  I incorporate Aqua Therapy as a primary therapy in my practice.  Combined with my other offerings, I believe it creates a well rounded wellness program.
